This painting is in the current exhibition of my recent paintings at the Thackeray gallery.  Done at the very beginning of May.  Late afternoon high tide, a wild sea, sun and wind all day promising summer. The exhibition continues until June 25th.

Recently spent a week in Upper Eskdale, Cumbria. Heavy rain, all the streams and rivers full – timed it right for my preferred late Autumn with the last leaves. Very wet working conditions…    This painting still in progress

An “undergrowth” painting place – the Bovey unusually full for this time of year

A cold evening by the Dart. River swollen and black after rain, bit of sun just coming through, had to work fast before dark.

Late Autmn evening above New Bridge, sun almost down, intense red against the black and gold.

September on the marshes near Cley, last here in early summer when this wading pool was dry – pleased to find it now brimming with water in spite of the dry bristly weather. Result of some high tides?  I like this tactile molecular landscape.

Been coming here for thirty years but this is the first time I’ve painted from this place on the Western headland. Very sharp morning light.
